No Doors, No Windows reads smoother and more fluently than all of Schreiber's previous works, not because they're inferior, but because his craft has improved to such a degree that this one feels like a masterpiece.

However, the strong drive of the book does teeter a little at the end as all the mysteries are revealed and the plot wraps up/5(44). In 'No Doors, No Windows', aspiring writer No windows book Mast returns to his hometown for his father's funeral but the discovery of an unfinished manuscript makes him stay.

Intrigued by the Round House stated in his No doors father's story, he decides to temporarily reside in that very house to try completing the horror tale/5. No Doors, No Windows sounded like a good choice, from the few titles I was missing, so I picked up a copy.

This collects 16 stories, and has the introduction from the original release. Most of these stories were new to me, but they're short (the book is just under pages, with the intro) and for the most part just aren't as good as his other /5(10).

No Doors, No Windows is probably Ellison's best collection of non-fantasy stories; it contains primarily material from mystery and men's magazines from the '50s and '60s and these stories were selected as the best of his work from that oeuvre.

My favorites are two of the later works, The Whimper of Whipped Dogs and Tired Old Man.4/5. “No Doors, No Windows draws us into a fearsome, doom-haunted world that closes down like a trap.

A knockout book!”—Peter Straub “A harrowing, up-all-night read with delicious scares at every turn.”—Tess Gerritsen, on Eat the Dark. "No Doors, No Windows" is intense, chilling, and at times hallucinogenic; a story of madness carried down through the generations.

In many ways, it tells the classic Gothic tale of a house stained by a decades old evil, warped by the lingering spirits of the dead.5/5(5). No Doors, No Windows A Novel. Joe Schreiber. No doors, 12 Ratings; $; $; Publisher Description.
